PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a magnetic head, which is provided with two kinds of magnetic layers having a small difference in coercive force, and to perform magnetic recording and reproducing of high performance.
SOLUTION: This magneto-resistance effect head is provided with a multilayered film 10 where a first magnetic layer 12 and a second magnetic layer 14 are laminated interposing a nonmagnetic layer 13 between them. The direction of easy magnetization of the first magnetic layer 12 is made approximately parallel with the direction of a magnetic field applied from a magnetic recording medium, and that of the second magnetic layer 14 is made approximately perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field applied from the magnetic recording medium. The first magnetic layer 12 has a coercive force which has such magnitude that magnetization can be inverted by the magnetic field applied from the magnetic recording medium, and the second magnetic layer 14 has an anisotropic magnetic field smaller than the coercive force of the first magnetic layer. When the magnetic field applied from the magnetic recording medium to the multilayered film 10 is inverted, the magneto-resistance change of the multilayered film 10 due to temporary anti-parallelism of the angle formed by directions of magnetization of two magnetic layers.
