Abstract:
An internal combustion engine unit has a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine with an exhaust turbocharger and a power output turbine to which, for operation of the supercharger turbine, unwanted exhaust gas can be fed by means of a closable exhaust branch line emerging from the connecting line between the internal combustion engine and the supercharger turbine. The power output turbine drives a machine consuming a variable power input. In order to be able to match the power of the power output turbine to the respective power demand of the machine without thereby influencing the operation of the internal combustion engine, the exhaust branch line divides into a secondary line leading to the exhaust and a feed line to the power output turbine. A separate adjusting and shut-off element is assigned to the secondary line and the feed line respectively, which elements are jointly controlled so that the sum of the partial exhaust mass flows flowing through the secondary line and the feed line is constant in any setting without variation of the pressure upstream of the adjusting and shut-off elements and is equal to the quantity of exhaust gas not required by the supercharger turbine.
