Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a carcinostatic composition having high selectivity to cancer cells and high solubility in diluents suited for administration to humans.
CONSTITUTION: This is a carcinostatic composition contg. rhodacyanin compds. of formula I (where X1 and X2 are each O, S, Se, -CH=CH-, -CR4R5- or -NR6-; Y is O, S, Se or NR7-; R1 and R3 are each alkyl; R2 is alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic group; Z1 and Z2 are each atomic groups necessary for forming 5- to 6-membered ring; L1 is CH or a group which may form 5- to 6-membered ring combined with R3; R4 and R5 are each alkyl; R6 and R7 are each alkyl or aryl; Q is a pharmacuetically acceptable anion; (k) is 1 or 2; (m) and (n) are each 0 or 1) of a therapeutically effective amount (generally 0.1-1 wt.% in the composition), and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or a diluent. A therapeutically effective amount of the compds. is 10-500 mg per day per 70 kg of body weight, preferably in the range of 100-200 mg. As preferable compds. belonging to the compds. of formula I, the compds. of formula II-V are exemplified.
