PURPOSE: To reduce a difference between the light outputs of respective discharge lamps by connecting plural discharge lamps in parallel with each other through a balancer, and forming a balancer so that a difference between inductances of two coils thereof is reduced.
CONSTITUTION: A discharge lamp lighting device is provided with a high frequency power supply 3 for supplying the high frequency power to plural discharge lamps 1, 2 in parallel and a control unit for modulating this output simultaneously, and the discharge lamps 1, 2 are modulated continuously. At this stage, the discharge lamps 1, 2 are connected to the output of the power supply 3 in parallel with each other through a balancer T so as to reduce a difference between the outputs both the lamps 1, 2. In this balancer T, a primary coil N1 and a secondary coil N2 are wound up alternately to equalize the magnetic fluxs passing through the two coils N1, N2 to each other and reduce a difference between the inductance components. Consequently, a difference between the light output of plural discharge lamps in a low luminous flux area can be reduced.
