CONSTITUTION: Picture elements 1 are arrayed in a two-dimensional array and first and second vertical scanning circuits 5L and 5R for scanning the arrayed picture elements in a row direction through vertical selection lines are provided. The first vertical scanning circuit 5L is made correspond to odd- numbered vertical selection lines, the second vertical scanning circuit 5R is made correspond to even-numbered vertical selection lines and a control clock generation circuit 21 for controlling clock groups for driving the respective vertical scanning circuits 5L and 5R and switching a scanning mode is constituted so as to switch and generate a first clock group for which basic clocks are the main and a second clock group composed of the basic clocks and clocks provided with a cycle twice as much as the basic clocks for which phase difference is mutually provided or the like.
