PURPOSE: To provide a nursery bed material consisting of a specific constitution, capable of taking out from plug without deforming nursery bed material and transplanting without damaging seedlings even if these seedlings are young in which root pots are not formed and facilitating packing operation to the plug.

CONSTITUTION: A nursery bed material 3 is formed of an organic material having strong shape holding property (preferably peat-moss) so as not to deform when taken out from a plug, and e.g. many nursery bed materials are carried on the upper face of a plug tray and these nursery bed materials are dropped into the plug by oscillating the plug tray to readily pack the materials into plug. Further, recessed parts 3a and 3a are formed in both of the upper face and the bottom of the tubular nursery bed material. Thereby, when the nursery bed material is housed in the plug, the nursery bed materials are kept so that recessed part for sowing seeds are always located on the upper side and space for stopping stretching of root is formed on a hole of the plug bottom in the recessed part located in the lower part to prevent root from protruding from the hole of the plug.
