PURPOSE: To display two images on a screen in a easily visible state and in color.
CONSTITUTION: A light from a light source becomes a vertically polarized light by a polarizing filer 1, and is projected on a liquid crystal pannel 2. The liquid crystal pannel 2 is composed of a pair of two liquid crystal cells for each pixel. Although the vertically polarized light is transmitted though each liquid crystal cell as it is when a voltage is applied, the direction of the polarization is changed to a horizontal polarization when no voltage is applied. Further, the polarized light transmitting through each cell is transmitted through a pixel polarization filter 3 composed of a pair of a vertical polarization filter and a horizontal polarization filter. By a control part 6, related to the image to be displayed by the horizontally polarized light, the cell corresponding to a luminescent point generates the horizontally polarized light by applying the voltage, and the cell corresponding to no luminescent point generates the vertically polarized light by applying no voltage to be outputted. Related to the image to be displayed by the vertically polarized light, the process is performed reversely.
