PURPOSE: To obtain an emulsifier capable of producing an excellent artificial marble having remarkably improved water-resistance from an unsaturated polyester resin by reacting a polycarbonate diol with an unsaturated dibasic acid and reacting the reaction product with an alkali.
CONSTITUTION: The objective emulsifier is produced by reacting a polycarbonate diol with an unsaturated dibasic acid and reacting the reaction product with an alkali. An aliphatic polycarbonate is used as the diol and ammonia is used as the alkali. An unsaturated polyester is compounded with a polymerizable unsaturated monomer, a curing agent and a crosslinked polymer powder produced by emulsion-polymerizing a polymerizable unsaturated monomer in the presence of the above emulsifier and drying the product. The crosslinked polymer particle has a secondary particle diameter of 5-50μm. An artificial marble is produced by compounding a filler to the composition, forming the mixture by cast-molding process, etc., and curing with a hot-press.
