Title:
CONTROLLABLE SUPERCONDUCTOR STRUCTURE DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0722661
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To enable the control of the transport characteristic within a contiguous superconductor by moving the electrons through a gate to change the conductivity in a conversion layer. CONSTITUTION: A superconducting (SL) layer is isolated on a substrate, and a conversion layer is isolated on one part thereof, and a metal electrode is disposed thereon. Insulator-metal transition takes place in the conversion layer, and the change of conductivity in the conversion layer contiguous to the superconductor controls the characteristic of the superconductor. The conversion of the insulator layer into metallic state due to the acceptance of the electrons leads to a proximity effect taking place in the contiguous SL layer. The energy defect of the superconducting electrons is reduced by this proximity effect, and the critical transition temperature is lowered. Further, the superconductor is forced to have a variation of surface energy at the contact surface thereof for lowering the pinning force. This lowers the highest superconducting current density. Control effect can be achieved by both of these effects.
