PURPOSE: To measure the functional measured value of a bad smell in an instrumental analysis by a method wherein gases, at a low concentration and a high concentration, whose bad smell index is known are made to flow, a multiple is adjusted at the low concentration, a concentration and a zero are adjusted by a zero adjusting dial, a multiple adjusting dial is adjusted at the high concentration so as to obtain the difference of the known bad-smell index and a value in which an index value at the low concentration has been added to the value is displayed.
CONSTITUTION: Measured values are expressed as logarithmic values, and straight lines 1, 2 respectively represent a value by the sense of smell of a human being and a value by an instrumental analysis. A gas having a known bad-smell index of P1 is made to flow, it is adjusted by a multiple adjusting dial in such a way that measured values coincide, and a straight line (a dotted line) 3 is obtained. When a zero point is adjusted by a zero adjusting dial, the X-axis and the Y-axis for the straight line 3 are coordinate-transformed to a new X' axis and a new Y' axis. Then, a gas, at a high concentration, having a known bad-smell index of P2 is made to flow, and it is adjusted by the multiple adjusting dial in such a way that measured values coincide with a (P2-P1). Then, a straight line which coincides with the straight line 1 is obtained. Thereby, the measured values are values corresponding to the X' axis and the Y' axis, and correctly a functional numeral value without any error can be found when a value in which the P1 has been added to a second corrected measured value is displayed.
