Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent or alleviate the damaging effect of ultraviolet rays on human skin and/or hair by using a composition containing an active substance comprising a combination of an antioxidant and a nonphotosynthetic and nonfructifying filamentous bacteria. CONSTITUTION: This sunscreen/cosmetic composition for photoprotection of human skin and/or hair includes a combination of an antioxidant with an extract from a nonphotosynthetic and nonfructifing filamentous bacteria in a cosmetically acceptable carrier. The bacteria is selected from Begiatoales, preferably bacteria belonging to the families Beggiatoa, Vitreoscilla, Flexithrix or Leucothrix, particularly Beggiatoa alba. The antioxidant is, for example, tocopherol, its derivative, γ-oryzanol, lysine dipidolate or balsam. The amount of the antioxidant is 0.001-30 wt.% based on the weight of the composition and the bacterial extract is 0.01-2 wt.%.
