PURPOSE: To obtain a core yarn suitable for woven and knitted fabric having excellent hygroscopic property and quick drying property.
CONSTITUTION: The objective core yarn is produced from a filament yarn A consisting of a core-sheath type conjugate fiber (a) and a crude yarn B consisting of cotton. The crude yarn B is subjected to fine spinning so as to enclose peripheral part of the filament yarn A and the core-sheath type conjugate fiber (a) is composed of a sheath part consisting of a fiber forming component having substantially C-shaped cross-sectional face and a core part consisting of dissolved, decomposed and removed component and a ratio occupied by the core part in the cross-sectional face of the core-sheath type conjugate fiber (a) is 20-50%. Since the core yarn has a hollow fiber obtained by subjecting the core part of the core-sheath type conjugate yarn to removing treatment, the yarn exhibits excellent hygroscopic property and by the cotton yarn arranged in the peripheral part, fibrillation in the core yarn is prevented and the core yarn causes no whitening due to abrasion. A woven or knitted fabric obtained from this core yarn is excellent also in light weight property and especially suitable as sport wear.
