PURPOSE: To dispense with the operations of an image reader for plural number of times even when data with different kinds of resolution are read in for the same image and to generate image data with resolution other than the one that can be set on a scanner.
CONSTITUTION: It is assumed that a user designates image reading with 50dpi for pre-scan. At this time, a control program execution means 133 reads in an image with the highest resolution with which the scanner can perform scan (40Odpi in this case), not reading in the image by controlling the scanner 105 to read the image with 50 dpi, and preserves the image in an auxiliary memory device 107. Thence, the control program execution means 133 communicates with an image processing program execution means 135, and requests the conversion of the image data read in with 400dpi to the one of 50 dpi designated by the user.
