Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the subject polymer stable to heat, giving a slightly colored molded article and, accordingly, suitable as a transparent material for optical use by carrying out melt-polycondensation of an alicyclic dihydroxy compound and a carbonic acid diester in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer is produced by the melt-polycondensation of an alicyclic dihydroxy compound of formula I (X is 6-20C bivalent alicyclic hydrocarbon group) (e.g. bisphenol A) and a carbonic acid diester (preferably diphenyl carbonate) and, as necessary, a dicarboxylic acid of formula II (V is <=20C bivalent saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group, aromatic hydrocarbon group, etc.; W is H, phenyl, etc.) or its derivative in the presence of a boron compound of formula III [R is alkyl or aryl; Y is P or N; Z is (substituted) phenyl] (preferably tetraphenylboric acid tetra-n-butylammonium salt). The polycondensation is preferably carried out in an inert gas atmosphere at 150-300 deg.C. The amount of the compound of formula II in the polymer main chain is preferably <=20mol%.
