Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent colors from changing at every visual angle.

CONSTITUTION: This electric field control double refraction effect type liquid crystal display device consists of first and second substrates 16, 18 facing each other, electrodes 21 and oriented film 22 provided on the inside surface of the first substrate 16, electrodes 24 and oriented film 26 provided on the inside surface of the second substrate 18 and a liquid crystal 20 inserted between the first and second substrates 16, 18. The oriented film 22 of the first substrate 16 and the oriented film 26 of the second substrate 18 are subjected to an orientation treatment by segmenting these oriented films to microregions in units of the size of one picture element or below so that the inclination directions of the liquid crystal at the time of impressing a voltage are opposite from each other in the microregions.
