PURPOSE: To replace a fuel roll with an empty roll smoothly by transferring a full roll after detecting the vertical positions of vertical positioning sensors to a weaving machine by the vertical positioning sensors provided on the cross roll carrier side to adjust the vertical positions of roll transfer arms to the weaving machine.
CONSTITUTION: Transfer arms 28A, 28B are tiltably fitted to an auxiliary base 14 supported in the longitudinally movable state on a cross roll carrier 1 so as to perform the transfer of a full roll and an empty roll. Vertical positioning sensors 53, 54 serving also as longitudinal positioning sensors are fitted to the tip of the transfer arm 28B. These sensors 53, 54 are formed of distance sensors. The auxiliary base 14 is moved forward into a position where both sensors 53, 54 are turned on, and in this forward position, the transfer arms 28A, 28B are moved upward until both sensors 53, 54 are turned off to adjust the vertical position. The lateral positions of the transfer arms 28A, 28B are further adjusted so that the lateral positioning sensor 54 is turned on.
