Abstract:
PURPOSE: To reduce the loss in a dispersion compensator which is used, specially, for an optical transmission system.
CONSTITUTION: The double-mode optical fiber dispersion compensation is based on the discovery that the performance can be improved and the size is reducible by carefully arraying a mode pattern as to the curved plane of a wound fiber. Specially, minimum loss is obtained when an LP11-mode null line is present on the curved plane. Consequently, constitution wherein the fiber guarantees correct directivity for minimum curvature loss is made clear.
