Abstract:
PURPOSE: To correctly read even the zip code written in the zip code entry frame which is only incompletely erased by an optical filter.
CONSTITUTION: An input 11 is inputted through an optical filter 12 and is sent to binarizing parts 14 and 15 and is binarized by certain thresholds. The threshold of the binarizing part 14 is set to a level approximating that of picture elements of characters, and a satisfactory picture of zip code characters is obtained by this part 14. The threshold of the binaring part 15 is set to a level approximating that of picture elements of the surface of paper, and a satisfactory picture of the zip code entry frame is obtained by this part 15. A zip code entry frame detection part 16 detects the position or the like of the zip code entry frame from the output picture of the binarizing part 15. A zip code entry frame erasing part 17 rewrites black picture elements in the zip code entry frame, which are included in the output picture of the binarizing part 14, with white picture elements based on zip code entry frame position information of the zip code entry frame detection part 16. A zip code read part 18 reads zip code characters from the output picture of the zip code entry frame erasing part 17.
