Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a medium-duty mat coated paper for gravure printing.

CONSTITUTION: This medium-duty mat coated paper for gravure printing is produced by coating at least one surface of a coating base paper with 3-15g/m2 (in terms of dry weight) of a coating composition containing 20-80wt.% (based on the total pigment) of cubic precipitated calcium carbonate having a BET specific surface area of 1.5-4.5m2/g and 20-40wt.% (based on the total pigment) of a bulky kaolin having a sedimentation volume of 0.77-0.95mL/g, drying the coating composition and smoothing the surface to get a white paper gloss of ≤40%. The obtained medium-duty mat coated paper for gravure printing gives little missing dots and has excellent dot reproduction and printing gloss.
