PURPOSE: To obtain a UV-transmission preventive glass at a low cost by forming a metal oxide film contg. bismuth oxide on the surface of a glass substrate to keep a specified visual transmittance.
CONSTITUTION: The sintered compact or powder of bismuth oxide as a target is sputtered on a soda-lime glass substrate, etc., by high-frequency magnetron sputtering. A film having 500-5000 thickness, contg. ≥70wt.% bismuth oxide and having ≥70% visual transmittance is formed on the substrate surface to produce the UV-transmission preventive glass. The substrate is heated, if necessary, and a soln. of a manganese compd. such as manganese acetylacetonate in alcohol is sprayed on the substrate and heat-treated at 350-800°C. A film having 500-5000 thickness and ≥60% visual transmittance is then formed on the substrate surface to produce a UV-transmission preventive glass.
