PURPOSE: To obtain a higher harmonic compensator in which compensation gain can be varied for each order of higher harmonic and compensation capacity can be set for each order of higher harmonic.
CONSTITUTION: An AC power supply bus connected with a load 17 is connected with an inverter 4 outputting a current for compensating for the higher harmonic components contained in load current as well as p-q converting circuits 11-n1, AC removing filters 12-n2 and two-phase/three-phase converting circuits 13-n3 corresponding to respective order of higher harmonics. Compensation current commands corresponding to respective order of higher harmonics detected from the load current are then created and any one of them is selected through a compensating order selecting circuit 14 and then the difference from an inverter output is taken out to be employed as an inverter gate signal. According to the invention, higher harmonic of particular order can easily be compensated for.
