PURPOSE: To enhance the precision of track width, to suppress the deterioration of the magnetic characteristics of substrates and metallic magnetic films due to stress, to enhance the characteristics of a magnetic head and to enhance productivity.

CONSTITUTION: Substrates 3, 4 consisting of joined materials of nonmagnetic and magnetic materials 8, 9 and nonmagnetic and magnetic materials 10, 11, respectively, are cut from the opposite face 3b, 4b side along oblique planes 3a, 4a meeting obliquely with the joined faces 3c of the materials 8, 9 and the joined faces 4c of the materials 10, 11, and metallic magnetic films 5, 6 are formed on the oblique planes 3a, 4a to obtain a pair of magnetic core halves 1, 2. These core halves 1, 2 are made to butt against each other so that the magnetic films 5, 6 connect with each other in an almost straight line and the core halves 1, 2 are joined unitedly by filling melt bonding glass into the gap between each of the magnetic films 5, 6 and each of the nonmagnetic materials 8, 10. At this time, the difference between the coefft. of thermal expansion of the nonmagnetic materials 8, 10 and that of the magnetic materials 9, 11 may be regulated to ≤5×10-6 and the angle θ between each of the opposite faces 3b, 4b of the substrates 3, 4 and each of the joined faces 3c, 4c may be regulated to 0° to 90°.
