PURPOSE: To reduce an optical energy to be emitted reversely and to efficiently emit a forward optical energy by a method wherein an angle of a light-emitting end face of an end face emitting-type EL element to a substrate is specified, and an optical energy reflecting area is formed in the front of the light-emitting end face.

CONSTITUTION: An optical printer head 1 is formed by arranging a plurality of end face emitting-type EL elements 21 in an array form on a substrate 11 made of a glass or the like. The EL element 21 consists of a lower electrode 31, a light emitting layer 51, a pair of dielectric body layers 41, 61 clamping the light emitting layer 51, and an upper electrode 71. In this invention, a light- emitting end face 111 of the EL element 21 is inclined at an angle of 90 degrees or less to a main surface of the substrate 11. In this manner, an optical energy to be emitted from the light-emitting end face 111 in the reverse direction to the main surface of the substrate 11 is reduced. In addition, the surface of the substrate 1.1 in the front of the light-emitting end face 111 is made flat as a reflecting area 91. In this manner, an optical energy to be emitted from the light-emitting end face 111 toward the main surface of the substrate 11 is efficiently emitted outward.
