PURPOSE: To provide a method and an apparatus wherein nitrogen oxide, sulfur oxide, and hydrogen chloride are simultaneously reduced in a high temperature furnace.
CONSTITUTION: A combustible material is introduced into a furnace 10 and combusted to form a primary zone. Combustion air, an absorber, and a first part of a hydrocarbon fuel are mixed in a calcinator to form a mixture of product gas/calcination absorber. The mixture of a product gas/calcination absorber and a remaining part of the hydrocarbon fuel are injected in the furnace 10 to form an oxygen poor secondary combustion zone downstream of the primary combustion zone. Overfire air is injected into the furnace 10, and an oxidative tertiary combustion zone is formed downstream of the oxygen poor secondary combustion zone.
