PURPOSE: To prevent the flowing out of toner retained on the rear surface of a cleaning blade into the next process, and its pollution, and simultaneously, to reduce the damage of the surface of a latent image carrier by providing plural cleaning blades processed so as to contact with the surface of an electrostatic latent image carrier and setting the hardness of a blade in the downstream side in the moving direction of the electrostatic latent image carrier lower than that of the blade in the upstream side.
CONSTITUTION: As a cleaning device 5, one provided with two metallic blades 51 and 52 is used, and the blades 51 and 52 are located in the downstream side in the rotational direction of a drum 1. As the blade 51 of the upstream side, stainless steel whose Vickers hardness is ≥370 is used, and as the blade 52 of the downstream side, carbon steel whose Vickers hardness is ≤170, is used, as well. Then, the toner retained on the rear surface of the blade 51 of the upstream side, and unexpectedly flowing out to the downstream side, is peeled and removed by the blade 52 of the downstream side. Moreover, the blade 52 of the downstream side, has relatively low hardness, so that the abrasion fatigue of the drum 1 can be reduced.
