PURPOSE: To provide the distance information output device of a camera which can output a correct absolute distance though a power source is turned off or a power source battery is removed.

CONSTITUTION: A switch 4a turning on the power source, a motor 9 driven in response to the opening and the closing of the switch 4a, a control means 8 moving a photographing lens to a reference position, an up-down counter 15 detecting the moving quantity of the photographing lens from the reference position by counting a a pulse signal and a reset means resetting the counted value of the counter 15 when the photographing lens arrives at the reference position are provided. Then, when the power source is turned on, the photographing lens is driven to the reference position and the counted value using the absolute distance for calculation is reset.
