PURPOSE: To provide a load abnormality detecting device capable of detecting an abnormal state such as disconnection or short circuit with a simple structure.

CONSTITUTION: A load abnormality detecting device is formed of a mechanical counter 1 having a counter coil L for integrating and displaying the number of image output pieces of an image forming device; a counter driving means 3 for turning ON/OFF the counter coil L of the mechanical counter 1; a load detecting means 4 for detecting the output state in one end of the counter coil L of the mechanical counter 1; and a load abnormality detecting means for monitoring the output state of the load detecting means 4 at a prescribed timing according to the output state of the counter driving means 3, and detecting the abnormality of a load.
