PURPOSE: To provide an inflator assembly for inflating the car-mounted occupant restraint such as an air bag.
CONSTITUTION: The device 10 for inflating an air bag contains a vessel 12 for retaining a pressurized stored gas source. A gas generation material main body 20 is arranged in a housing 22. A cup shape closure member 24, having a brittle area 176, obstructs the gas flow passing an annular flow route row formed in the end wall 58 of the vessel 12. When the gas generation material main body 20 is ignited, the gas applies the pressure to the end wall of the closure member 24 and the brittle area 176 of the closure member is broken. The pressure applied by the gas to the end wall of the cup shape closure member 24 moves the closure member toward the end of the opposite side of the vessel 12. The gas flows from the vessel 12 into the diffuser 36 through the opening 28 in the end wall of the vessel. The diffuser 36, closure member 24 and housing 20 for retaining the gas generation material main body 20 are all connected to the end wall of the vessel 12.
