PURPOSE: To prevent the spot of an image forming body which is always identically displayed from being deteriorated earlier than other parts.

CONSTITUTION: Light from a light source 1 is reflected by a reflector 2, separated to three colors of R, G and B by a color separation optical system 11, condensed by a condeser lens 3, made incident on a liquid crystal panel 4 for each color, and formed into an image, then the images are synthesized to one image by a color synthesis optical system 12 and projected on a screen by a projection lens 5. A pattern always identically displayed on the screen is previously drawn with light transmissive pigment on the glass surface of any liquid crystal panel 4. Thus, the light passing the pattern and the image light generated by the liquid crystal panel 4 are superimposed and projected on the screen. By drawing the pattern in color, the liquid crystal panel 4 becomes monochrome and the entire image looks colored even when the color separation optical system 11 and the color synthesizing optical system 12 are omitted.
