To provide a method for manufacturing nanografibers which are homogeneous and are good in reproducibility and a nanografiber sheet.
The method for manufacturing the nanografibers comprises arranging a first carbon electrode 2 which is a cathode and a second carbon electrode 3 which is an anode so as to face each other and generating an arc discharge between these carbon electrodes in a gaseous hydrogen atmosphere, thereby forming a deposit including the nanografibers on the first carbon electrode 2. The surface of the second carbon electrode 3 facing the first carbon electrode 2 is provided with a projecting part, and after the projecting parts of the first carbon electrode 2 and the second carbon electrode 3 are brought into contact with each other, a prescribed electric current is passed between these carbon electrodes, and simultaneously, the spacing between the carbon electrodes is widened at a prescribed speed until a prescribed distance is attained. Further, the first carbon electrode 2 formed with the deposit is heated to a prescribed temperature in the atmosphere containing gaseous oxygen and the nanografiber sheet is taken out of the deposit.
