NEW MATERIAL:To compound of formula I (R1 and R2 are each ≥4C branched alkyl, alkenyl or cycloalkyl).
EXAMPLE: Bis[2-(1,3,3,-trimethylbutyl)-5,7,7-trimethyloctyloxy)] (2,3-naphthalocya nate)silicon.
USE: Infrared filters, optical recording media, liquid crystal displays, laser printers, coloring matter for electrophotography. Giving intense absorption for rays covering near infrared-infrared region, being stable and highly compatible with conventional organic solvents.
PREPARATION: First, a reaction between a compound of formula II and a second compound of formula III is carried out to form 2,3-dicyanonaphthalene of formu la IV. This compound is allowed to react with NH3, etc., to make a diiminoisoindoline compound on which SiCl4 is then acted to give a dichloro derivative of formula V. There, aqueous ammonia is acted on this derivative to form a diol derivative, which is then made to react with a branched alcohol.
