Abstract:

To provide an excellent cobalt naphthenate through finding a naphthenic acid suitable for stably producing the cobalt naphthenate.

The naphthenic acid for producing the cobalt naphthenate is such as to present a chart having only one chevron-shaped peak within a specific retention time when carried out a gas chromatography under specific conditions for the corresponding naphthenic alkyl ester. The cobalt naphthenate is such as to present a chart having only one chevron-shaped peak within a specific retention time and having no peak other than the above peak when carried out a gas chromatography under specific conditions for a naphthenic alkyl ester which is obtained by alkylating a naphthenic acid derived from the cobalt naphthenate.
