Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new naphthoquinone derivative useful for electrophotographic photoreceptor, useful for an image-forming apparatus such as electrostatic type copying machine, facsimile, laser beam printer, etc.
SOLUTION: This naphthoquinone derivative is shown by formula I [R1 is an aryl; R2 is an alkylene, an arylene, a group of formula II (R3 is an alkylene), etc.] such as a compound of formula III. The compound of formula I is obtained, for example, by isomerizing a 1,3-indanedione derivative of formula IV in a solventless state or a proper solvent in the presence of sodium hydride to give a 1,4-dihydroxy naphthalene derivative of formula V and oxidizing the derivative. A photosensitive layer containing the naphthoquinone derivative of formula I is applied to a substrate to give an electrophotographic photoreceptor.
