Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a copolymer having an intramoelcularly heterogenenous but intermolecularly homogeneous composition suitable for lubricating oils and lubricating oil additives by setting plural parts of intramolecularly heterogeneous chains to be of a specific composition in ethylene content, and setting the copolymer to have a specific molecular weight distribution.
CONSTITUTION: Copolymer of ethylene, other α-olefin monomer, and non- conjugate diene having an average ethylene composition and including intramolecularly heterogeneous copolymer chains is composed as below. That is, the copolymer has such an intermolecular composition dispersion degree that compositions of plural parts of intramolecularly heterogeneous chains are mutually different in ethylene content by 5 wt.% or more, and that 95 wt.% of compositions of the copolymer chains are different from the average ethylene composition by only 15 wt.%. In addition, the copolymer has a molecular weight distribution having an Mw/Mn of less than 2, and an Mz/Mw of less than 1.8, a weight averaged molecular weight of 20,000-750,000, ethylene content of 30-80 wt.%, and non-conjugate diene content of 15 or less. Mw, Mn, Mz are respectively represented by formulas I, II, III (Ni is the number of molecules having a weight Mi).
