PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adequately judge the possibility that a vehicle travels on a narrow road or hits and obstacle, and guide the vehicle safely by providing an image recognizing means, an obstacle detecting means, a narrow road judging means, a passage judging means, a vehicle guide means, etc.
SOLUTION: When a driver is driving a vehicle, images of various soild bodies in front of it is picked up by a front monitor camera 11, the image recognizing means 21 obtain three-dimensional image data on the distance distribution of the image picked-up scene in front of the vehicle with its image signal, and a road and obstacle detecting means 22 recognized the forward road shape to detect the position, size speed, etc., of an obstacle on the road. Further, the narrow road judging means 31 finds the substantial width of the road with the road shape and data on the obstacle and compares this road width with the vehicle width and when the passage judging means 32 judges that the vehicle can not travel on the narrow road, alarms 13 and 14 generate alarms with a 1st alarm command of the vehicle guide means 33, thereby informing the driver that the vehicle can not pass.
