PURPOSE: To obtain the subject antioxidant having high safety, excellent efficiency higher than tocopherol and able to reduce cost by using extract of root stock, stem, leaf or flower of Cannaceae plant as active ingredient.

CONSTITUTION: Root stock, stem, leaf or flower of Cannaceae plant, preferably edible canna (scientific name: Canna edulis Ker.) is directly, or after drying, extracted with solvent such as water or lower alcohol to afford natural antioxidant. Adding amount of said antioxidant is usually sufficient as 0.001-5wt.% (preferably 0.01-0.05wt.%) to oils and fats, food and drink containing oils and fats, drug, quasi-drug, tobacco, feed or cosmetic, etc.
