To detect the position of a user even in a hand-held state, in a pocket inserted state, or a bag inserted state in a navigation device for detecting and displaying the position of the user indoors or in the underground.
A navigation device 10 includes an angular velocity sensor 13 for outputting an angular velocity signal, an acceleration sensor 14 for outputting an acceleration signal, first walking state determination means for determining the walking state of a user on the basis of both the angular velocity signal and the acceleration signal, and second walking state determination means for determining the walking state of the user on the basis of the acceleration signal. The navigation device 10 selects the first walking state determination means or the second walking state determination means on the basis of a holding state of the user.
