PURPOSE: To input additional information on a place without the need of a complicated input operation by a user by storing character information on a map as the additional information on the place as to a navigation device for storing information on an optional place on the map in a memory for a user.

CONSTITUTION: As to the navigation device for storing the information on the optional place on the map in a memory part 10 for a user, character information lying within a prescribed extent on the map is read out of a map information memory part 4 by a character information retrieving part 12, and the character information on the map functions as the additional information on the place, so that the complicated input operation at the time of inputting the information can be eliminated, and also, the information can be displayed in KANJI (Chinese character), thus, information display which is easily read by the user can be presented.
