Title:
NAVIGATION SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH10318777
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To calculate the current position of a pedestrian accurately by using a number of steps detection means in combination with a GPS navigation system.

An initial position is determined by delivering positioning information from GPS satellites to a controller 7. A user is positioned after movement using a magnetic compass 10, a pedometer (registered trade mark) 11 and a gyro sensor 12. Current position a pedestrian is then determined by adding the position after movement to the initial position. Since the moving distance is measured from the number of steps of the user detected by the pedometer 11, the current position can be determined accurately. The route to a goal can be guided by providing a message from a speaker 13.
