To provide a near-infrared absorbing dye which excels in light and heat resistances and ensures no change in its absorption wavelength even when mixed with another dye, and to provide a near-infrared absorbing filter containing the same, particularly a near-infrared absorbing filter for an electronic display.

The near-infrared absorbing filter has a layer containing a compound represented by formula (1) wherein R1 is a hydrocarbon group, carbonyl group, silyl group, H, cyano group or halogen; R2 is a hydrocarbon group, carbonyl group, hydrocarbon-thio group, silyl, H, cyano group or halogen, Y1 and Y2 are each a hydrocarbon group; and M1 is a metal.
