To provide a needle threader for a sewing machine, allowing the whole head part to be compact and enabling an operator to securely execute needle-threading by one hand.

The needle threader is provided with a needle threading shaft in close proximity to a needle bar supporting a needle to shift it up and down, a needle threading hook of which the hook part can be introduced/removed into/from a needle hole, a regulation mechanism for regulating the descent limit of the shaft, a rotation mechanism for rotating the shaft in proximity to the limit of the shaft by a specified angle so as to insert the hook part through the needle hole, and a thread guiding member for guiding a needle thread to the hook part in proximity to the limit of the shaft. The guiding member is integrally formed with an operational body able to shift the shaft up and down and to rotate it around the shaft. The needle threader has an energizing member energized against the guiding member, pressing down the shaft by the operational body in proximity to the lower limit, after rotating the operational body in a direction where the guiding member closely approaches the needle, lifting the guiding member up by energizing power of the energizing member.
