PURPOSE: To provide a needle with a threading path formed through a wall defining the needle eye so that a thread can be threaded through the needle eye simply by applying the thread to a part of the needle defining the threading path and pulling the thread along the threading path, without requiring troublesome threading work using the sense of the fingers.

CONSTITUTION: A groove 1 is formed in the outer surface of a part of a needle 5, forming one side wall of the needle eye 4, a threading path 2 along which a thread 6 is pulled into the needle eye 4 is formed through the same side wall, and a thread arresting tongue 3 is formed along the threading path 2. The thickness of the threading path 2 is decreased toward the needle eye 4, and the thread arresting tongue 3 is tapered toward the needle eye 4 and the tip of the thread arresting tongue 3 is substantially in contact with the inner surface of the side wall to close the needle eye 4. The thread arresting tongue 3 is formed so as to be bent to open the threading path 2 into the needle eye 4 when the thread 6 is pulled along the thread arresting tongue 3 for threading. When the thread is pulled after applying a loop of the thread to the groove 1, the loop moves along the threading path 2 bending the thread arresting tongue 3 and drops into the needle eye 4. After the thread has been received in the needle eye 4, the thread arresting tongue 3 restores its original shape to close the threading path 2, so that the thread is unable to escape from the needle eye 4.
