To provide an alkaline storage battery having an improved cycle life while suppressing pressure rise in the battery when charged, without lowering the handling property of a negative electrode.
The alkaline storage battery includes a positive electrode 1, the negative electrode 2, and alkali electrolyte, wherein fluorine oil exists on the surface of the negative electrode. The negative electrode uses a hydrogen storage alloy which is shown by a general formula: Ln1-xMgxNiy-a-bAlaMb, where Ln is at least one type of element selectd from a rare earth element including Y, Zr, and Ti, M is at least one type of element selected from V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, Mn, Fe, Co, Ga, Zn, Sn, In, Cu, Si, P, and B, and the conditions of 0.05≤x≤0.30, 0.05≤a≤0.30, 0≤b≤0.50, and 2.8≤y≤3.9 are satisfied.
