Numerous projections 4 are formed on both sides of a planar core material 3 in which many through-hole 2 have been opened, and a powdery mixture 7 of metal powder 5 having ductility and electrical conductivity and hydrogen storage alloy powder 6 is fixed to both sides of the core material 3 by conductive rolling to compose the negative electrode plate 1 of a secondary battery. In this way, many projections 4 formed on both sides of the core material 3 are bitten into the powdery mixture 7, and moreover, the contact area between the core material 3 and the powdery mixture 7 increases by the formation of the many projections 4, so that the powdery mixture 7 is firmly fixed to both sides of the core material 3 and is made hard to be peeled from the core material 3.
