Title:
NESTED-ROTOR OPEN-CORE FLYWHEEL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2018151072
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flywheel and a flywheel architecture that eliminate the material growth-matching problem, obviate radial growth and bending mode issues, and achieve a high energy density.SOLUTION: A flywheel assembly for storing and releasing energy comprises: a rotor assembly 32, 34, 36, 38 within a vacuum chamber; a stator assembly 40, 42, 43, 45, 46; a rotor magnet 34, 36, 38 affixed to the rotor 32; a stator magnet 48; and a high temperature superconducting bearing 45 in communication with the rotor and stator assemblies; where the rotor magnet 34, 36 and the stator magnet 48 are positioned relative to one another to facilitate levitation of the rotor during operation. The assemblies comprise an open-core architecture.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1b
