An energy absorbing system is provided with a capturing net 500 erected on a road 10 and a mat 2000 installed on the road. The capturing net 500 is connected with a support 400 which is capable of standing up and pushing down. When the support 400 is pushed down, the capturing net 500 is able to lie on a pre-determined position so that a vehicle can be driven without being disturbed by the net on the capturing net 500. When the capturing net 500 is located on a lowered position, the mat 2000 has a plurality of recessed parts so as to store the capturing net 500. When the support 400 stands up, the vehicle and its occupant are blocked so as not to intrude in a rail track 20 by being restrained by the capturing net 500 after the vehicle collision with the capturing net 500.
