PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transcode a multimedia data flow on a network.
SOLUTION: An active network daemon 6 receives a service request including a flow parameter from a network client 10. A multimedia data flow requested by the service request is decoded (5) by a method decided by the flow parameter in the service request. The data flow decoded by the method decided by the flow parameter in the service request is encoded to generate a transcoded multimedia data flow (5).
