To provide a compact neutron-energy measuring apparatus which can evaluate neutron average energy, simply and in a short time.
The neutron-energy measuring apparatus includes a neutron detection unit 100, having a structure in which two thermal neutron detectors 110, 112 are inserted in two different positions on the central axis of a cylindrical neutron moderator and an average energy calculating unit 150 for calculating the neutron average energy, on the basis of the output from the neutron detection unit 100. The average energy calculating unit 150 calculates the average energy of neutrons incident in the central axial direction, on the basis of the ratio of the counted values of the two thermal neutron detectors 110, 112. In the neutron detecting unit 100, preferably, the insert position and detection sensitivity of the two thermal neutron detectors 110, 112 are adjusted, and the sum of the count values of the two thermal neutron detectors 110, 112 is allowed to have a flat response, with respect to the neutrons incident in the central axial direction.
