To provide a new aliphatic hydrocarbon resin petroleum resin having excellent properties to applications for hot melt adhesives and inks.

The resin is obtained by carrying out heat polymerization of a raw material oil composed of 25-45 wt.% cyclopentadiene-based compound, 40-60 wt.% methylcyclopentadiene-based compound and 5-15 wt.% aromatic hydrocarbon. The resin satisfies the following items (a) to (c). (a) The softening point measured according to JIS K-2207 is 80-100°C. (b) The ball tack measured according to JIS Z0237 is ≥22. (c) Hexane tolerance is ≥20 ml.
