PURPOSE: To produce a new amide compound, hardly causing skin irradiation, excellent in foaming properties, capable of imparting a favorable touch to the skin, etc., and useful as a base for a hair and a skin cosmetics, a detergent, an emulsifying agent, a conditioning agent, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The amide compound of formula I [R1 is a (OH-substituted) 1-24C (branched) alkyl or an alkenyl; R2 is a (OH-substituted) 1-4C (branched) alkyl or an alkenyl; X is a halogen; (m) and (n) are each 1-6; (p) is 2-10], e.g. 4,8-bis(1-oxododecyl)-1, 11-di(trimethylammonium)-4,8-diazaundecane dichloride. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II with a compound of the formula R1-CO-Y (Y is OH, an alkoxy or a halogen).
